Hello!
« on: June 16, 2010, 10:23:03 AM »
Just wanted to say hello and introduce myself and my dogs!

I live in Central Victoria on 20 acres and currently have 10 sheep.

My dogs are Hope; a 9 year old Coolie/Border Collie, Fox; an 8 year old Kelpie and Link; a 1 year old Kelpie.

We've been doing some ANKC type herding trials and try to regularly go for practice and lessons at a sheepdog training place near Melbourne.  And Hope herds my ducks when I have time...

I don't have a round yard yet, but have recently made catching yards for my sheep.  As soon as I've gotten lambing/pregnancy times worked out properly, I want to start practising on my own sheep.

Diane.

Hi Diane,
what lovely dogs. I envy you being able to get to trials and training days. I had just started with my (then) kelpie puppy when I got pregnant with twins, and suddenly the kids are almost at school and the (no longer a) puppy is probably too old to teach new tricks to!
She is so smart though she might surprise me. I remember enough about starting a new dog that now I have a round yard and a few sheep to play with I intend giving her a few training sessions after our sheep sale in October (free time! I have written it on the calendar but wonder if it will actually happen!?) and will see how she goes.
I would love to hear more about your dogs and what you do to train them for trials. Where did your dogs come from? Link looks awfully like my Frankie in the eyes and Fox definitely has the same huge ears! Frankie came from Noonbarra stud in NSW. I will try and post a picture...
Cheers! Cate
