Weck Jar Cases
German made goods are traditionally associated with quality: just think Mercedes or Daimler for starters.
For preserving, German technology does not disappoint and the Weck range of canning jars is a high quality product.
The jars are made of heat hardened soda lime glass which makes the jars suitable for all canning jobs including water bath canning and pressure canning.
The jars have glass lids which can be reused indefinitely, as can the stainless steel clips that hold the lid in place. The seals are made of natural rubber and for dry storage purposes, these last for years but if you are heat processing jars, the seal should be used once only (used seals can be recycled for dry storage if desired).
Weck jars are also widely recommended for baking: whilst the glass is not a Pyrex style borosilicate, the glass is rated to 400 degrees Fahrenheit and this makes them popular for baking small cakes, pies and puddings in their home country.
All these factors make Weck jars highly sought after, particularly if you are concerned about recycling and minimising waste. Whilst the up-front cost may be higher than Mason jars, the advantage is that there are fewer parts that need to be replaced on an ongoing basis.
As if all these factors are not enough, Weck jars come in a large range of sizes and shapes so they are useful not just for preserving but for home storage, freezing and also for decorative uses. The jars are stylish and attractive, so no need for a separate serving dish: just take the jar as is to the table!
